St. Hildegard of Bingen
Print of an original icon, painted by Mary Lau, Artist-in-Resident at St. Francis of the Woods for the naming of the Hildegarden.
St. Hildegard of Bingen, was a medieval mystic and the Abbess of a Convent. She wrote about theology, herbalism, and composed music. She even created her own language. She was a leader in the Church in an age of extreme patriarchy. On 17 September 1179, when Hildegard died, her sisters saw two streams of light appear in the skies and cross over the room where she was dying.
Her feast day is September 17th.
