Prairiewood Forest School:
S.T.E.A.M. Jr. Mentors

Wednesdays | grades 6 - 12 | classes each fall & Spring

Through this drop-off class for students in grades 6-12, our "Jr. Mentors" participate in brainstorming, planning, and research sessions, and present  engaging, inquiry-led S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Techonology, Engineering, Art, & Math) learning experiences with peers and Mentors as we all connect with community, personal creativity, and the natural world.

Families can apply for new and returning students via the next admissions lottery HERE. Please note that this drop-off class is included in our full-time Prairiewood Microschool program, and that any available spots are prioritized for those students.

During each 12 week session, your student will take on roles in the garden, with our farm animals, and presenting a group S.T.E.A.M. topic of their own choosing to their peers. After an initial "Farm Hand" time each week, we share a community gathering followed by lunch meetings with each presentation team. Plenty of time is available for open-ended exploring, library research, sensory engagement, and creative projects in our inspiring outdoor learning environment. We regather at the end of each 3 hour session to reflect on our learning, practice care for our supplies and the land, and taste a snack prepared from our garden, over the fire, or in our cob pizza oven.

PLEASE NOTE that enrollment as a Jr. Mentor carries additional leadership responsibility, including participating in online planning discussion, signing up for a presentation topic at an in-person meeting before each 12 week session begins, presenting to the class, and helping clean up every week.
